The weather outlook for this weekend is great! We hope you all have plans to do lots of biking and other outdoor activities over this long holiday weekend.
We have a few announcements to share with you today.
First off, our Rental Hut is open Saturday and Sunday this weekend, but will be closed on Monday (Labor Day). If you need a bike for Labor day, we suggest you place a rental reservation with us online for Saturday or Sunday pick up and return on TUESDAY. Special day rates are available to acommodate those of you who are able to reserve in advance.
Our shop at 212 E. Cass Street will be open with normal operating hours (10am to 4pm) on Saturday and CLOSED on Sunday and Monday in observance of the holiday. We will have a mechanic on duty Saturday for last minute repairs and we just received a fresh shipment of lights, tires, locks, hand pumps and other exciting parts and accessories on Friday for you to browse if you are in the area.

From Aug. 30-Oct. 29, 2010, the Upper Tampa Bay Trail will be closed from Gardner Road to Manhattan Drive.
The closure is due to installation of a drinking water pipeline and Hillsborough County trail maintenance. For the safety of trail users, access to the closed section will be prohibited; the trail overpass at Citrus Park Drive will be closed.
The trail will remain open south of Gardner Road and north of Manhattan Drive.Residents and businesses can follow the project’s progress and the trail closure on Twitter and at www.tampabaywater.org.

All the rides will start at 8 a.m., but participants should arrive at the starting points no later than 7:45 a.m. Since the theme of the event is independence from oil, participants are encouraged to ride their bicycles from home to the starting points.
SPECIFIC RIDE INFORMATION FOR DOWNTOWN TAMPA
Starting place: Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, 600 N. Ashley Dr., 33602. Pace: 12-14 mph.
The shorter ride will be about 11 miles long and will go down scenic Bayshore Blvd. to Ballast Point Park, then head back to downtown.

The longer ride will be about 24.5 miles long and will also go to Ballast Point Park, then west on Gandy Blvd. and across the Gandy Bridge, turning back after reaching the Pinellas side.

City Bike Tampa, will provide refreshments at Curtis Hixon Park sponsored by Mix1 for the participants of the downtown Tampa rides.

For those of you who have been following City Bike Tampa for some time now, you know that these rides have become somewhat of a big deal, not just for us, but for the 5 carefully selected restaurants that make it into our lineup each time.
This go around we are featuring Sono Cafe (@ the TMA on Curtis Hixon Park), Pizzaiolo Bavaro on Franklin Street, Stumps Supper Club @ Channelside, New World Brewery on 8th Ave in Ybor City and our close neighbor, Fly Bar and Restaurant.

This time around we were also fortunate enough to obtain sponsorship from tbt* (*Tampa Bay Times), which has helped us grow our RSVP list to well over 50 riders. Upcoming Group Rides
Our regularly scheduled Thursday night ride is on for this Thursday evening starting at 7 pm. Helmets are strongly suggested and lights are required. We leave the shop (212 E. Cass Street) at 7:00 and head out through South Tampa to Bayshore Blvd, through Davis Island, back to downtown Tampa and over to Channelside for a 15 – 20 mile loop through the urban oasis. Riders of all skill levels are welcome. No RSVP necessary for this week’s ride!
