Simplify the urban lifestyle on one of Kona’s new E-bikes

    April 30, 2010 // No Comments »

The  Ticket, Token and Electric Ute will soon be available through an Authorized Kona Dealer near you.  According to sources at Kona Bikes, availability on these bikes will be limited initially due to high demand and instant backorder.

Both the Ticket and Tokenare 700C trekking bicycle types that use a 24-volt, 250W battery assisted Pedelec motor. The riding is very smooth due to the application of a patented Dutch design TMM torque sensor that is mounted on the dropout. Through a precise digital processor, the power assist from the front wheel drive motor can be delivered in proportion with the exact power output of the rider.

The system’s battery capacity is 24V with 10Ah (Amp Hour), delivering a long lifecycle of more than 700 rides. Both bikes feature a brushless geared 250W motor that is widely used in Europe. In power mode, the system can assist riding for up to 30km. In normal mode, power assist lasts up to 57km, while in economy mode, the battery has a huge 100km range (all range tests were conducted using a 85kg rider in a mild headwind condition). Kona uses Samsung 18650 Li-Ion cells, and a very sophisticated battery management system to detect cell performance and balance, with an incredibly accurate charge indicator.

For more information on this and other recent developments, take a look at the Konaworld Newsletter.

City Bike Tampa has recently been given pricing information, which is currently only available upon request, but you can expect to pay in the mid-$1000 range for a Ticket or a Token and a little over $2,200 for an Electric Ute

As far as availability goes, the back order is expected to initially be around 30 – 45 days with no guarantees as to whether it could be shorter or longer.  All special orders through City Bike Tampa will need to be pre-paid and will be processed on a first come first served basis.  Call (813-225-1777), email or stop by the shop when you are ready to get yours.

Thursday Night Ride – Weekly Event

    April 15, 2010 // No Comments »

Well, so it’s April, and as promised, we’ve got the ride down. New day, new route, new start. 7 p.m. Thursday leaving from City Bike Tampa at 212 E. Cass St. (North side of the Element building). Please arrive by 6:45 for the pre ride chat (for group ride newbies) and so we can roll promptly at 7.

The inital 22+ mile route is this:
City Bike Tampa Thursday training ride

There will be two groups, a faster group (18-20+) and a slower more casual group (that may eventually have a shorter route). Riders will determine the pace of the group and the faster group is a drop ride.

With that said, the intent of the ride is to build/maintain base miles and to challenge yourself. Riders on the faster ride will not intentionally be dropped, but they won’t be waited for either. Focus will be on group riding, pace line work, sprints, recovery, etc. If you fall off the back, you should be absorbed by the slower group.

Come challenge yourself or keep your base up and help others build skills and fitness. This ride is open to all bikes, as per Florida State law, front and rear lights are required, as is a brake. Helmets are also strongly encouraged.

All are welcome to meet up post ride at The Pour House in Grand Central to have a brew and talk about how you got edged out on the sprint, how the ride was faster last week and why that new whiz bang gadget would really make you faster.

Note: Thursday was picked because it was the best day for all involved. It is in no way meant to compete with the existing Thursday ride in Tampa. You are welcome to join us and either drop off at Publix, as we ride right past, or finish the ride and race to meet up with the other ride.

Interested in details about this and other local rides? Enter your email below and click to subscribe.  City Bike Tampa will not sell or use your email address for anything other than this intended purpose.
